Mrs. Josephine Wilber
Principal’s Welcome
Welcome to the Netherwood Elementary School website. All are encouraged to visit our site periodically for updates, important information reminders or to gain an understanding of what happens at Netherwood on a daily basis. We hope you enjoy your tour and if you ever have questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
We strive to create a safe and comfortable environment where children's academic, social and emotional needs can be addressed. We believe that developing positive student-teacher relations is one of the most effective steps we can take to establish a positive climate in our school.
We offer a variety of opportunities for our students to connect with us at Netherwood. Some of these include Thursday morning Game Club, Netherween, Fire Safety, building-wide assemblies, and extra-curricular field trips. We enjoy a strong partnership with our PTA which helps to strengthen our school-wide community.
We have an active Building Leadership Team (BLT) that will focus on developing a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) system for all of our students this year. We are also brainstorming ideas for a new school mascot!
We expect great things will continue to happen at Netherwood, and we expect you to be part of that. If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas, please feel free to call us at 845-229-4055. We are here to help in any way we can.
We look forward to working together so that we can make a difference in the lives of all our students!

Netherwood Elementary School was built in 1961, near the site of the area’s first school, a one-room schoolhouse that was established in 1919. Unfortunately, the original school, which was located further up Netherwood Road, towards Salt Point, burned down several years ago.
Points of Pride:
- Kindergarten classes perform a circus to end the school year. Included are a variety of activities such as, rope climbing, rings and tumbling. It truly is one of the greatest shows on Earth!
- Netherwood’s nature trail, created by two former students as a Girl Scout Cadette Silver project, opened in 2014. The trail stretches across the campus and allows students to appreciate and learn about nature.
- Offers a before school game club on Thursday mornings!
Mission Statement:
The Netherwood Elementary School community strives to challenge each of us to grow as individuals. We value social-emotional development and respect for others, creating an environment where learning is accessible to all. Through this, students can enter the world possessing the habits necessary to foster positive relationships and the skills to be successful, independent learners.
